辨析：许多词典和翻译教材都提供这样的译文,实在有点误人子弟.英语和汉语有不少说法粗看似乎是“巧合”,实际上具体含义很不一样.The New Oxford Dictionary of English对“Love me,love my dog.”的解释是：If you love someone,you must accept every thing about them,even their faults or weakness.也就是说：“要是你喜欢我,就要喜欢我的（一切,包括我的）狗.”Love my dog是love me的条件；而“爱屋及乌”讲的是：“爱人者,兼其屋上之鸟”,即“爱一个人爱得很深,连他房屋上的乌鸦也觉得可爱”.显然,“爱乌”是“爱（某个人）”的结果,所以原译完全是本末倒置.
