First off,it;s much better than the first, more locations, funnier and better put together.

The story pretty much straight forward, better than the first, but nothing special, some dialogue was hard to hear, and sly does try to be serious in some scenes which got a laugh and I don't think its how it was intended but its not that much of a big deal really as there are funny moments in the film, more so than the first film.

Fight scenes were better this time round, not too prolonged, timed well, and the one on ones didn't drag on too long.Sly & van damme's fight could have been a bit longer but I guess after all the chaos leading up to that point it was sufficient enough without getting too silly, reminded me of a Rocky fight here and there.he he One liners were good, dolph was great, the girl is good also,be good to see her in exp3,locations and sets fab,cgi was not obvious and edited well.

One thing I will say is sly does have issues coming across as funny and I don't know why. He's funny in real life and was funny in rocky but its hit and miss and it shows here in some scenes.

    Tiny Times

Tiny Times,a Chinese feature film set incontemporary Shanghai, made headline news on its opening day in late June byknocking the Hollywood blockbuster Manof Steel from its perch atop the domestic box-office and breaking theopening-day record for a Chinese-language 2D release.

The film follows four college girls as theynavigate romance and their professional aspirations, but the bulk of the filmis about the female longing for a life of luxury in the company of agood-looking man.Tiny Times is not a women鈥檚 film, though it does featurefemale characters, draped from head to toe in designer clothes and easilymesmerized by the presence of supposedly visually stunning males鈥攏ot the usual,muscle-bound Hollywood types, but Asian boys of androgynous demeanor withcompact frames, equisite facial contours and the look of perpetual youth.

At first glance,Tiny Times might bemistaken for a Sinicized Sex and the City, but soon it becomes clear that thefour boy-crazed,mall-loitering characters in Shanghai have little in commonwith the fiercely independent career women in Candace Bushnell鈥檚 New York.Positioned in the market by Le Vision Pictures of Beijing as a coming of agestory, the rite of passage for one dazed girl in the film is to grow into acompetent personal assistant to her oh-so-handsome male boss whose aloofdemeanor and penetrating gaze constantly destabilizes her.Another girl from anouveau riche family, showers her boyfriend with expensive clothes and accessories. The third girl鈥攃hubby, suffering from stereotypically low self-esteem andemotional eating鈥攊s made fun of throughout the movie as she obsesses over youngtennis player, the one man in the movie who actually possesses somethingresembling muscle. The fourth girl,a budding fashion designer from a humblebackground,is trapped in an abusive relationship with yet another good-lookingboy.

Taking a page from the book of popular EastAsian 鈥渋dol dramas鈥 that cater primarily to youth in their teens and twenties, the film features popular singers, actors, and actresses, cast regardless ofany actual acting ability.Good idol dramas frequently feature teen romance, inwhich brooding characters with dark secrets and painful pasts elicit pathos andreal emotion.Tiny Times, however, has done away with complex story arcs andcharacter development. The film looks great but ultimately lacks substance.

The four characters鈥 professionalaspirations amount to serving men with competence. The film is a Chinese versionof 鈥渃hick flick鈥 minus the emotional engagement and relationship-based socialrealism that typically are associated with the Hollywood genre. The onlyenduring relationship in Tiny Times is the chicks鈥 relationship with materialgoods. The hyper-materialist life portrayed carries little plot but serves as asetting for consumption, and is more akin to MTV or reality TV than real drama. With its scandalously cartoonish characters, the film would have worked betteras a satirical comedy, except that the director is too sincere in hiscelebration of material abundance to display any sense of irony.

We were caught completely off guard, stupefied by the film鈥檚 unabashed flaunting of wealth, glamor, and male powerpassed off as 鈥渨hat women want. Its vulgar and utter lack of self-awareness isastonishing, but perhaps not too surprising. It appears to be the product offull-blown materialism in modern, urban Chinese society. The film speaks to themale fantasy of a world of female yearnings, which revolve around men and thegoods men are best equipped to deliver, whether materially or bodily.Itbetrays a twisted male narcissism and a male desire for patriarchal power andcontrol over female bodies and emotions misconstrued as female longing.

Whatever happened to Chairman Mao鈥檚proclamation that 鈥渨omen hold up half the sky鈥?In Tiny Times Chinese societyhas regressed to an earlier era.Years of accelerating economic growth havebrought unprecedented social and geographic mobility, and increased pressure onChinese men to succeed,to follow the trail of power and money, leaving theirwomen behind.Economic growth has exacerbated the gender gap, often revivingcultural traditions that reduce women to a sub-human status. The contempt forwomen that I have witnessed in China in recent years is alarming. The malechauvinism in the film is symptomatic of a society where the choices for womenare severely limited. The ones with bodies are enticed to become material girlsunder the thumb of men,the ones with brains who dare to use their thinkingfaculties are condemned to eternal loneliness, and the ones possessing neitherare banished to a corner.

Much to our horror and dark amusement TinyTimes鈥 director Guo Jingming, won the award for 鈥渂est new director鈥 at therecently concluded Shanghai International Film Festival.A film school dropoutturned popular fiction writer,Guo aspires to be an author of contemporaryShanghai.Though not a Shanghai native,he nevertheless invokes the renownedShanghai novelists Eileen Chang and Wang Anyi as his predecessors.Guo鈥檚imagination paints Shanghai as a world city whose very spirit is equated withwealth and the attendant decadence.Nevermind that he paints a world devoid ofcompassion and humanity.Nevermind that the fabulously wealthy Shanghai in hisfictionalized world is hardly the reality for majority of citydwellers.

"Life is beautiful",is a film about that brief period of Nazi rule in Italy due to which many ordinary Jewish people had to endure enormous hardships.Although it is a film about Nazism,it is quite different from other films of the Nazi film genre like Schindler's list.It is more of a film about comic romance, laughter, optimism and how to keep one's sanity intact when one finds oneself in a difficult close to death kind of situation. This film ran into trouble as many leading filmmakers protested against what they called "making mockery of a serious issue like holocaust".According to Godard it is hard to believe that life could have been beautiful for anyone in a concentration camp.Life is beautiful is divided into 3 parts:carefree life, period of hardships and a harmless game with a kid.Roberto Benigni and his wife excel in all these parts. It is the star kid Giorgio Cantarini who shines in the last part.In a way,it can be said that the film succeeds because of his innocent behavior with which he carries himself through his entire stay with his father.

Sylvester Stallone,Jason Statham,Jet Li,Mickey Rourke,Terry Crews,Randy Couture,Steve Austin,Dolph Lundgren,Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.Figuratively and practically, there isn't a marquee on earth big enough to hold all of them.Yet they all play their parts in the retro action thriller 'The Expendables.'

The movie basically stars everybody who has ever held a gun and coined a catchphrase after killing someone onscreen in the last thirty or so years.Directed by Stallone, the plot concerns a group of mostly good-hearted mercenaries who band together for a dangerous mission. The fact that this also could describe a fair number of action movies produced in the last thirty or so years is part of the movie's attempt to lure an audience-this is action cinema as comfort food, and the viewer is meant to slip into these familiar characters and situations like a football fan putting on a throwback jersey.

In general, critics have faulted the film's lack of inventiveness, but some have found that the movie delivers some solid,if predictable, thrills. Here's what the reviewers are saying:

    总的说来,影评人批评这部电影缺乏新意,但是也有人认为这部电影不乏精彩和刺激,虽然可能并不那么出人意料.下面是影评人的一些观点:

'An effective mix of lean and over-the-top,'The Expendables' is often preposterous, but it achieves the immediacy of a graphic novel without the overdone mythology.' [Sheri Linden,The Hollywood Reporter]

    "一个简朴和浮华的有效结合体.《敢死队》是荒谬的,但又如同一部文笔生动的小说,直接、并且毫无过分的神话色彩."(见林登(Sheri Linden)发表在《好莱坞报道》(Hollywood Reporter)上的评论.)

'Where is Jean-Claude Van Damme? If I go to see a movie called 'The Expendables,' which already features Sylvester Stallone,Bruce Willis,Mickey Rourke,Dolph Lundgren, and Arnold Schwarzenegger,I expect a place to be found, amid this noble array of thinkers, for the cuboid Belgian.' [Anthony Lane,The New Yorker]

    "尚格•云顿(Jean-Claude Van Damme)去哪儿了?如果我去看一部叫《敢死队》的电影,它汇集了史泰龙、布鲁斯、米基•洛克、杜夫•龙格尔和施瓦辛格等动作明星,那么我希望在这批高贵的思想者中间,也能找到这位比利时硬汉的身影.(见雷恩(Anthony Lane)发表在《纽约客》(New Yorker)杂志上的评论.)

''The Expendables' ends with a knife thrown at the camera,a parting assault on the audience reminiscent of 1903's The Great Train Robbery. This is action as timeless as the reptilian brain-and if The Expendables is no classic, for about 20 minutes,it blowed up real good.' [,The Village Voice]

    "《敢死队》以一把刀扔向镜头为结尾,毫不客气地激起观众对1903《火车大劫案》(The Great Train Robbery)一片的回忆.这个动作就像人类的动作记忆一样让人难以忘怀──《敢死队》可能不是经典,但是有那么20分钟时间,它确实大放异彩."(见平克尔顿(Nick Pinkerton)发表在《村声》杂志(The Village Voice)上的评论.)
