480BC,the Persian Empire's emperor Xerxes I (played by Rodrigo Santoro) lead an army of half million (exaggerated as 5 million) and over a thousand warships invading Greece.His army moved southward closing on to the Thermopylae Pass,the arrogant Xerxes also had sent out surrender ultimatums to all the Greek city states hoping that those smaller states would surrender without a fight,which of course included Sparta.As a result,messagers sent out by Xerxes were all having a hard time with their missions.All The Greek city states were furious with Xerxes.At that moment,in order to repel the the great threat from the Persian army,the brave Spartan king Leonidas (played by Gerry Butler) lead a Greek allied army of 7000 and rush to defend Greece.

On the other side of the war,The Persian army already had a heavy lost on sea battles.It was rather obvious that they would not be able to organized an attack on land too soon.Therefore the two armies' encounter would not happen within a couple of days.But two days later,that cunning Xerxes had sent out an elite attacking force carried out a sneak attack on Leonidas from the back.The Greek army were stunted and beaten quickly.Under attack from two fronts,In order to conserve their batlle strength,Leonidas ordered his army to retreat.He lead a rear guard of just 300 to protect the Greek army's retreat.The Persain army were throwing everything they got at him and his brave 300 warriors.All 300 of them died but not before they had inflicted a total of 20,000 deads on the Persain army.Xerxes had paid a heavy price for invading of Greece.
