Thankgiving can be traced back to the origin of American history. In 1620, Mayflower delivered 102 English pilgrims to the shores of America. During the winters of 1620 and 1621, they have encountered umimaginable hardships. They were cold and starved, and only 50 of them survived the winter. Abiding by the tradition of "those who came are guests", the Indians gave the immigrants things that are integral to survival, and taught them how to stay alive in this land. With the help from the Indians, the new immigrants gradually adapted to the local lifestyle. On harvest day, the new immigrants invited the Indians to celebrate the givings of God together.
Thanksgiving is a holiday only celebrated in America and Canada, with the original intension of thanking the Indians, but now people often thanks others too on this day. Since 1941, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year, and everyone have a two-day holiday to spend with their family, no matter how busy they are. Thanksgiving is usually between November 22 and November 28, and is the most cultural holiday amonst America's legal holidays. Thanksgiven in Canada is celebrated on the second Monday of October every year since 1879.
On the day of Thanksgiving, all of America is celebrating with Christians abiding by tradition going to mass and say a thank you prayer in the churchs, and there are masquerade parade, drama shows and sport contests, etc. Families that were separated for a year get to meet each other and eat delicious meals that are mainly turkey.
